Playa del Cristo
About This Spot
Playa del Cristo offers one of Costa del Sol's most accessible shore diving experiences, perfect for beginners and underwater photographers. This protected bay near Estepona features easy beach entry over sandy bottom that quickly transitions to fascinating rocky reefs and scattered boulders. The underwater landscape reveals dramatic granite formations creating swim-throughs and small caves at depths ranging from 5-18 meters. Divers regularly encounter colorful nudibranchs, octopuses hiding in crevices, and schools of sea breams. The rocky terrain hosts vibrant sponges and sea fans, while sand patches between rocks are ideal for spotting flatfish and rays. Conditions are generally calm with excellent visibility averaging 10-15 meters, making it suitable for all certification levels. The site works best during morning dives when winds are minimal. Park along the coastal road and gear up on the small beach. Bring reef-safe weights as the sandy entry requires good buoyancy control. Check local conditions as winter swells can make entry challenging.
