February marks the transition from winter to spring beneath the waves. Water temperatures hold steady at 14–15°C, but the days are getting longer and the underwater activity is picking up. This is peak cuttlefish season — you'll see breeding pairs performing their mesmerizing colour displays. Nudibranch are everywhere, and if you're lucky, the seahorses of Sotogrande make early appearances. February is perfect for photographers and macro enthusiasts. The coast remains uncrowded, giving you exclusive access to dive sites that'll be packed by summer. Our small group sizes mean personalised attention from Ludo and the team.

What to Expect in February

February brings slightly warmer air (13–17°C) and the first signs of spring. Underwater, the magic is in the macro — tiny nudibranch, pipefish, and blennies are everywhere. Visibility ranges from 8–15m depending on weather. A 7mm wetsuit with hood remains essential. Conditions are generally calmer than January, with more consistent diving days. Gibraltar dives become more regular as weather stabilises.

Cuttlefish breeding season transforms this site. Watch pairs change colour and texture in real-time — better than any nature documentary.

📍 Estepona Reefs

February Diving FAQ

Is February good for scuba diving in Spain?

Absolutely. February offers excellent macro diving, uncrowded sites, and the start of cuttlefish season. It's one of our favourite months for photography dives.

What's the water temperature in February?

14–15°C. We provide thick 7mm wetsuits with hoods and gloves. After 10 minutes you forget about the temperature — the marine life is too distracting.

Can I see seahorses in February?

It's the start of seahorse season in Sotogrande. Sightings aren't guaranteed but become increasingly common through February and into spring.

Is the PADI Open Water course available in February?

Yes, we run courses year-round. February is actually ideal — small class sizes, focused attention, and you'll have your certification before the summer rush.

How many people will be on my dive?

Maximum 4 divers per guide — that's our rule year-round. In February, groups are often just 2–3, meaning almost private attention.
