July is peak summer, peak energy, and peak fun underwater. The water is a bath-like 22–25°C — many divers go with just a rashguard. The Costa del Sol is buzzing with holidaymakers, and our intro dives are the activity everyone talks about at dinner. Visibility settles at 10–18m — not the year's best, but the warm water brings incredible fish activity. Barracuda schools are enormous, octopus are bold and curious, and if you're diving the strait, skipjack tuna blast through like silver torpedoes. This is also when rare sea turtle sightings happen — loggerheads occasionally cruise through our waters. July evenings are perfect for sunset dives and the social atmosphere around our dive sites is electric. Expect groups to be at capacity — book well ahead.

What to Expect in July

It's hot. Air temperatures hit 28–35°C, and the water is 22–25°C. A 3mm shorty or even a rashguard with shorts works fine. The thermocline is well established — surface water is warm, below 15m it cools noticeably. Visibility can dip to 10m on plankton-heavy days but averages 12–18m. All sites operational. This is our busiest month — book 2–3 weeks ahead minimum. Night dives are spectacular.

Best Dive Sites in July

📍 All sites excellent

July's warm water means every site is accessible and comfortable. We rotate sites based on conditions and crowd levels.

📍 Strait of Gibraltar

Tuna season. Schools of skipjack and occasionally bluefin pass through. Combine with a wreck dive for an unforgettable double-tank day.

📍 Estepona Reefs

Warm-water fish activity peaks. Night dives here reveal lobsters, crabs, and sleeping parrotfish. Both shore and boat entries.

📍 Le Lys Wreck

The 300-year-old wreck hosts maximum life in summer. Every surface is colonised by soft corals and sponges.

July Diving FAQ

Is July the warmest month for diving?

July and August share the warmest water (22–25°C). A thin wetsuit or rashguard is all you need. It's the most comfortable month for first-time divers.

Is visibility worse in summer?

Slightly reduced (10–18m vs spring's 15–25m) due to plankton. But this is actually good — more plankton means more fish, more action, more to see.

Can I see sea turtles?

Loggerhead turtles occasionally pass through in July–August. It's rare but happens. Our guides know the signs and where to look.

Are jellyfish a problem?

Occasional jellyfish drift in, but they're rarely an issue for divers in wetsuits. We monitor conditions and advise accordingly. They're actually beautiful to photograph!

What time of day is best for diving in July?

Early morning (08:00) for the best visibility and cooler conditions. Evening dives (before sunset) are magical for the light. Midday works but it's hot on shore.
