Scuba Diving in September
on the Costa del Sol
Warm and golden. 24–30°C air. Summer crowds thin. The coast takes a breath.
September is the insider's choice. Ask any dive professional on the Costa del Sol their favourite month, and most will say September. The water is still summer-warm at 22–24°C, but the crowds have gone home. Visibility bounces back to 12–20m as the plankton bloom fades. Eagle rays return from deeper waters, seahorses are active in Sotogrande, and the entire coast has a relaxed, golden-light quality that's hard to beat. This is our favourite month for PADI courses — conditions are ideal, groups are small, and students get exceptional attention. It's also the best month for multi-day dive trips: warm enough to do 3–4 dives per day without fatigue. September divers are the ones who come back every year. They know the secret.
What to Expect in September
September delivers summer warmth (24–30°C air, 22–24°C water) without summer crowds. Visibility improves steadily through the month. A 3mm shorty works perfectly. All sites are accessible with calm, reliable conditions. PADI courses run with small groups. Night dives continue. This is the sweet spot — book 1–2 weeks ahead. Many returning divers book September before they leave.
